It was truly a rough day in sports for favorites on Sunday. Least shocking was the 10-1 drubbing on behalf of the Yankees that the Twins took. Garza had a rough inning, and games seem to take a turn for the worse when the mighty Yanks get a few runs up on you.
A little more shocking was the way Andre Agassi ended his great tennis career. Sure, he was 36, but he seemed to not have the mental edge, even more than the physical edge, as he fell in four sets to Boris…er, Benjamin Becker of Germany.
Most shocking was my favorite hockey guy, Mike Keenan, resigning from the Florida Panthers. It’s a rather bizarre twist in the middle of a rather bizarre career he’s had. Something tells me he has some work coming to him at some point. He’s been known to work some back-door deals, and it’s possible he’s in line for a job should a team falter early in the season. Still, it’s too bad considering the Panthers look to have a good team, and a very good chance of making the playoffs this season. I’ll still have to pull for them. They have a good group of loyal fans (as small as the base might be, they are good hockey people). And Shelly and I will always remember the great time we had at the Panthers game on our honeymoon (the first shootout in team history). Here’s hoping they meet up with the Wild in the Stanley Cup Finals.
