No Integrity Hockey League

Let me just start out with this, because I think it is fairly self-explanatory: Panthers vs. Carolina Just in case it's not noticeable, let me help: Help Yes, Carolina had over 24 minutes of powerplay in one game. That's more than a period. Meanwhile, the Panthers had less than 7 minutes. I'm willing to allow for some kind of standard deviation in penalties, but where is the integrity in this hockey game? With the Center Ice package I can see all of the NHL games most nights. We do watch a fair amount of hockey. Consistently, this year, there has been more talk about the officiating than the rest of the game, itself. I won't be renewing my subscription next year barring some miraculous change in circumstance. This is not enjoyable to watch and certainly not worth paying money to watch. Granted, Carolina went 1 for 15 on the powerplay in this game, so the Panthers were able to hang in there (mostly thankful to Roberto Luongo), but even the Carolina fans (RBC known to be one of the louder arenas in the game) were bored with this one. The game saw a total of 26 minor penalties for a total of 52 minutes. For non-hockey fans, the game totals 60 minutes. There is no integrity in the NHL anymore. On any given night the referee can take over a game. Whereas it used to be frustrating to see players getting away with some muggings late in the game and not draw a call, this is a far worse alternative. Now we see every guy who falls to the ice result in a penalty of some sort. Lopsided Merry Christmas, Carolina Hurricanes. This gift is on the men in stripes.
