Listen to yourself!

Joe Conason from the (Un)Observer:

Until Mr. Bush openly proclaimed as commander in chief that he can brush aside the law, cries for impeachment were heard only on the political fringe, although most Americans have long since realized that he misled America into war. Much as he is disliked and disdained by liberals, even they have shown little enthusiasm for impeachment. In addition to the obvious obstacle of a Republican-controlled Congress, there appeared to be no firm proof of an offense that justified such action. To mention the word was to be dismissed—even by people who believe that this President may well have committed “high crimes and misdemeanors.”

I don’t think most Americans realized any such thing. I have realized, along with a lot of people, that the intelligence wasn’t as surefire as we once thought, but WMDs were found in Iraq, and that’s totally beside the point. The main contention here is that President Bush had the same intelligence that all the other Senators had who voted almost unanimously in support of this war. So, I know they’d like to take a little heat off of themselves, but the Iraq war has nothing to do with the “eavesdropping” situation, though clowns like this like to keep throwing it at us (because it does resonate with the whackos).

John Schmidt points out, in the Chicago Tribune, that the President had full authority to authorize this intelligence gathering method:

In the Supreme Court’s 1972 Keith decision holding that the president does not have inherent authority to order wiretapping without warrants to combat domestic threats, the court said explicitly that it was not questioning the president’s authority to take such action in response to threats from abroad.

It is important to realize that as much as the whackos like to see their opinion in a vacuum, more than half of the country voted for President Bush. Obviously we have some trust in the man; obviously more than what we had for John Kerry. All this, and John Kerry would have done the same thing.

Watch yourself in the mirror when you talk, and see if you would really buy what you are trying to sell. I kinda doubt it. Then again, this stuff is for whackos.
