It appears as though the White House is
strategizing an exit strategy without strategizing an exit strategy. It appears as though many pundits who thought Miers would be confirmed (whether they agreed with her nomination or not) are now doubting her chances.
The fact that this has even come to consideration is a major blow for the President. This is a mistake in the worst political degree, and the question should she be withdrawn by her doing or the White House's is "now what?" At least if the Democrats rejected her he would have some chips left on the table. Bush would be playing with a very small stack, unfortunately, and for all we know Judge Judy could be the next nominee. (Hey, it would make for some interesting confirmation hearings)
