I’ve disagreed with Archbishop Flynn’s position on several things, and I still do, but I must take timeout to acknowledge one of the greatest acts he has ever performed as a Church leader: his editorial in the Star Tribune yesterday. The true beauty of this article is that it is not just another “that play those goofballs over at the U are putting on is anti-Catholic” note. Instead, it shows just how biased the media was in reporting this. They threw blanket statements out there about the Church’s contingent, something that is terribly incorrect, politically, in today’s society about any other group of people. The article Archbishop Flynn refers to is a promotional piece for the play (in no uncertain terms). Most importantly, the article is arguably a worse case of Catholic-bashing than the play itself, as it is published as non-fiction (at least the play has whatever merits there are to being fictional!).
I don’t even want to copy a paragraph of the archbishop’s editorial because I want you to read it in full. Please click here to do that.
God bless Archbishop Flynn for standing strong in defense of Your Church. Help us all to do so, as difficult as it may be at times.
